Not too long ago, I created an activity mat for my mom who has the life altering diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. There comes a point in a person’s diagnosis where abilities and hobbies that once filled their days are no longer remembered and enjoyed. Sensory stimulation becomes important and mats like this give a person the chance to fidget, keeping their hands busy with simple, repetitive movements.

I make these boards as a “custom order” and can be found in my Etsy shop, click the link above.

You choose up to 7 activities for your mat (zippers, buttons, sequins, snaps, beads, sensory fabrics, velcro, shoe laces etc) and then let me know what colours and designs your loved one may be interested in. I will create a mat that suits their interests.

These mats are deliberately colourful to accommodate changing eye sight and hopefully create a fidget space that is much easier to see.
